Gente que Faz SaúdeSite available only in Portuguese Working for healthWe are enthusiastic to announce the coming of the Annual WHO World Health Day 2006 continuing with “Health in the Americas Week.” The dates of this year's celebration are: Friday, 7 April, 2006 which will be the official World Health Day, through Friday, 14 April. This year the theme of the World Health Day and the Health in the Americas Week will be Human Resources for Health. The PAHO/AMRO celebration will be dedicated to the people that toil every day on behalf of others, committing their professional lives to the health of all people of the Americas. We are especially pleased that this year’s World Health Day will be an opportunity to promote a Decade for Human Resources in the Americas. Over the next 10 years, we encourage stakeholders and policy makers to focus on human resources issues, with the aim of developing and supporting the women and men that work in health so that we can be able to reach the Millennium Development Goals by 2015. Human Resources are the cornerstone for health services. The only way we can continue to move forward to a successful achievement of the MDGs is through a well-trained, well-compensated health workforce that is committed to providing quality health services to all populations / individuals. In addition to the conferences and meetings that we expect to have in every country to call the public attention to this theme. WHO and PAHO are expecting to celebrate the health workers through the faces and stories of "Everyday Heroes." For those groups of health workers who otherwise never receive the recognition that they deserve, this is a day that we will all stand up and cheer and say "Thank You for Working for Health. Thank You for Healing the World." |
